Heading North

Happy Monday, friends! I hope you're all settling into the work week without a "Case of the Monday's" in sight. This past weekend I took a spur of the moment trip up to Sunday River in Bethel, Maine. If you've never been, it's about a 3.5 hour drive, over an hour of which is off the highway. While I had a great time in Maine, this post is more about my journey than my actual destination (ughh I feel like I belong on "The Bachelor" saying that). It was so nice to be outside the city, that just taking in my surroundings actually made the long drive pretty enjoyable. And, of course, I took the opportunity to take some photos.

On the drive up, I pretty much slammed on my brakes when I came across this "Elk Farm" in Maine. I think there had to have been at least 30 of these giant animals staring at me as I got a closer look at them!

Since I wasn't in a rush on my drive home, I decided to drive through a couple of places that I had never been before. The first was Old Orchard Beach in Maine, and the second was Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Old Orchard Beach was pretty desolate, as it's typically a summer-time destination. The amusement park was closed off and there was snow on the sand, but somehow the boardwalk still had an air of summer about it. I'll definitely plan to go back here when the weather is warm.

My drive through Portsmouth was a bit more lively, as people were out and about walking along the streets, and fishermen were in the harbor working on their boats. It looked like there was so much to do there, and it's definitely a place I'd like to visit when I can stay for a while.

If you're planning a trip up north this winter (or anytime really), I strongly encourage you to take some time to just take in your surroundings and really appreciate the beauty around you.

  2. Amy,
Awesome photos. The photo of the big ferris wheel with the Old Orchard Beach sign looks like it should be an album cover. Perfect song for viewing those Old Orchard Beach pics is Keith Urban's "Til Summer Comes Around". They evoke visions and memories of wonderous summers past as a child, and although we are in the middle of winter, it remminds us that summer and places of dreams and fun are just waiting for us to come back to rekindle our inner child.

    1. Thanks Dad. There's something about sepia tone photos and black and whites that really stir up memories. I'm sure you agree, I've noticed you really like those types of photos when I post them. I'm glad I was able to bring back some happy memories for you!
