Flower Headband

My sister's friend just recently had a baby girl and has since been searching for the perfect flower headband. When asked if I could create a custom headband for her, I decided that I was up for the challenge. 

Supplies: 

Fabric, flower, elastic, scissors, thread, pins, sewing machine

First measure the baby's head. Fold the fabric in half and cut it at about 3" wide and make the length about 2" SHORTER than the circumference of the baby's head.

Cut a piece of elastic to be about 3" - 3.5" in length.

Make another strip of fabric that is about 2.25" wide and double the length of the elastic just cut.

There should now be 2 strips of fabric and 1 piece of elastic.

Fold both pieces of fabric right sides together and pin.

Sew the along the length of the fabric.

Take the smaller piece of fabric and flip the fabric so the right side is now facing out.

Insert the piece of elastic into the tube of fabric so the end of the elastic lines up with the end of the fabric and pin it in place.

Sew the elastic in place.

Scrunch the fabric down around the elastic so that the other end of the elastic is now lined up with the other end of the fabric. Pin in place. Sew in place.

Take the larger piece of fabric, which should still be inside out, and fold the end down a little bit.

Insert the scrunched up fabric into the bigger tube of fabric until the ends meet.

Pin in place and then sew in place.

Flip the piece inside out so that now the right sides are showing.

Insert the other end of the scrunched fabric into the other end of the headband fabric and sew in place. Make sure your thread color is a close match!

The flower I used had a little jewel in the center of it, but I decided to cut a circle of fabric and glue that over the jewel so that it matched the headband.

Attach the flower to the headband and voila!
