Glass Etching

Glass etching is pretty easy but also pretty dangerous, so be sure to wear long sleeves, rubber gloves, and safety goggles for this project. Or else!

You will need:

Glass etching cream (get it at a craft store)

Exacto knife

Contact paper

Paintbrush

Pencil

Glass 

First, choose the design you're going to etch. Since my glass etching was a wedding gift, I chose the uppercase and lowercase letter 'G' as my design because it's the bride and grooms last initial. 

Trace the design onto contact paper and very carefully cut it out. Now you have your self-adhering stencil.

I recommend doing a test etch using the following instructions before etching on your good glass.

Make sure the glass you're using is clean and dry. Peel the backing off of the contact paper and stick the design onto the glass. Wine glasses proved to be pretty tricky during this step because of the way they curve. After multiple attempts I finally got it right.

Safety first: glass etching cream is acid and it can cause some serious damage, so wear gloves and safety goggles or you'll burn your eye out kid.

Using a paint brush, spread the etching cream evenly over the stencil. Be sure to use a pretty generous amount.

Let the cream sit on the glass for 1 minute (confirm with the directions on the bottle). Then, rinse it off with water.

Let your glass dry for a little bit, then peel off the contact paper.

Now you have personalized glasses!
